DIC Coding Challenges

Posted 29 October 2008 - 03:55 PM

I was just going through some of the older stuff in site feedback and came across this:

suggestion :
1) how about take all the tutorials written so far, and compile it all in pdf? all-in-one for those(especiall total newbies) who want to learn that language.
2) make a programming challenge every month or so, divided by level of knowledge. so that no expert would go and take part in challenges designed for beginner. prize : new badge like 'Programming Challenger (Beginner,Intermediate,Expert) Winner' will do.

I really like this idea, I was thinking about something like this the other day. I like the idea of the badges though~ perhaps an "awards" page for each member?

I'd be up for writing some of the challenges.

Failing that, what about a "challenge" section? Something like Project Euler would be pretty cool, and it's not like this site is short of geniuses to come up with some great ideas...

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

How do you think this will happen ?
If it takes more that 3-4 months, PMs, writing in Site Feedback forum to put snippet in the forum ( not always achieved), it will be interesting to see this.
Nice idea, though.

MitOK: You know one time when I was out for lunch I ordered a berger. I specifically asked for it without Onions. A rather simple request. However somewhere along the line an error was made, & my sandwich was given to me with onions on it. Sucked. I hate the way food tastes even after removing the onions, there is still a hint of that bad flavor, so it ruins any lunch.

However, I choose to continue going back to that restaurant. The service is always good, & it isn't because they feel they need to make up for one mistake. The service & food is of good quality, quite simply because they do their job.

You didn't get the automated email when your snippet was disapproved. If you choose to continue living in the past, that's your choice. Droning over & over about the past isn't going to change it.

If you don't like the way that the snippet & tutorial submission system is handled, then simple don't contribute.

We have in fact dome some challenges in the past, along with coding competitions...no reason why we could not do them again if there is interest.

Usually, the DIC team selects a few members to write the challenges, and those same members do the testing and review (and can therefore not participate, but that's the price of being on the team :) ).

If there is interest, we can likely get this moving relatively quickly.
