Streaming Video Question

Posted 24 March 2003 - 05:51 PM

Alright well I have a digital camcorder that saves the files as .ASF files. Right now Im using code on my site to run it with Window Media player...probolem is it only works if the user has Windows Media player 9 which most don't. Is there another way to do this? Like convert the file to another file type that will still keep it small? Thanks for any help.

hmmm.... i think it is the way your camera encodes it. i think it might be encoding it with a codec that is ment for wmp9 so, i dont know if there is away around it. you can link to window media player's site and make them download it. or you can check out the microsoft help database to see if you can make a wmp9 codec work with older players

Hi KiKal,

Windows Media Encoder 9 is free and available here:

http://www.microsoft...&DisplayLang=en

It will allow you to import an ASF file and convert it to a WMV file, which provides greater backwards compatability.
