Fireworks Vs Photoshop?

Posted 28 March 2003 - 03:06 PM

Just curious as to what the general opinion is. I am far from a graphic artist, and cant come close to doin half what Ive seen posted in this forum yet, but I have to do a bit now and again for web work. Ive got both, and Im curious as to which I should concentrate on learning better, and why.

As it is, It seems to me I can do more things with fireworks, but I may be wrong.

Fireworks can do the creation of roll overs, and more html based things then photoshop, wheras phtooshop is mainly for photomanip (minus the fact you can slice images for html layouts).

I started with fireworks 2years+ ago, switched to photoshop, and will never go back

one big difference between photoshop and fireworks is that photoshop works with raster images and fireworks works with vector images...

photoshop in conjunction with image ready will do just about as much as fireworks

so really it comes down to the question, what are you working with, vector or raster graphics

fireworks does both pixel-based and vector based. fireworks is like a mix of illustrator and photoshop. with all that said, i still use illustrator and photoshop way more that ill ever use fireworks.

the difference is :
photoshop rules
fireworks sucks

:)

in my personal experience photoshop is a much better tool unless you want to do alot of simple, newbie looking junk...

photoshop is no doubt the better tool overall but fireworks is good in very select and few areas.

I wouldnt call fireworks a nub tool. I can assure I could make a rather nice website design on fireworks as you can make in photoshop. But still, I think photoshop is better

I personally use photoshop religiously...but then again, I'm big into photography and need PS to manipulate some of the photos i've take and apply them for use in ads n' such. It's my most-used program on my PC.

:)

photoshop can create just as many.. think about all the default filters that are used incorrectly, or just 'nubish'

heh, It must just be my "nubbish-ness" when it comes to grahpics then, because I seem to be able to handle fireworks better. I cant seem to work photoshop near as well. I suppose I should really take a graphics class or two, but Im working on my Associates of Science in Computer Information Management, and working at a web design company, I just dont know where Id get the time.

Is there any good photoshop self-teaching tutorials out there?

Photoshop > Fireworks

Photoshop is far superior. I has more utilites - and is more versatile. I mean.. foreworks doesn't have an opacity option.
