Statically it makes more since to not give tax breaks to the middle class because they make up the greatest part of the population. Taxing the rich more does not solve the country's problems. He is a politician, nothing more. People tend to lose perspective and believe every word that comes out of his mouth. I'll say it again, we'll see what we'll see in January.

Taxing the rich won't fix the economy, but not spending billions upon billions of dollars on a war of bush's ulterior motives might help. Obama isn't going to magically clean up 8 years worth of destruction when he takes office in Jan, in fact I don't think Obama could fix everything in 4 or even 8 years time. All he needs to do is get us on the right track and that's all he promises.

Two words sealed the deal for me on Obama: campaign finance. The way I raised, if you say you're going to do something, you do it. It's called integrity.

Well who says Obama can't be president for a longer period of time? I mean who is going to stop it from happening? All it takes is a bill and the will of the Democrats to extend the election term.

FDR had a good reason though, WWII. They can technically rewrite it if they get approval from the Supreme Court.

All it takes to modify the constitution is the approval 2/3 of both houses and the legislatures of 3/4 of the States. The dems don't have 2/3 of either house and I don't think they can get 3/4 of the States' legislatures to agree.

Can't wait to see how much more taxes are going to go up. It is around 37% for me so far, that's almost half of my paycheck! It sucks being Middle Class.

If your taxes go up it won't be Obama's fault. I just hope he sticks to his promises and actually gives you the tax break he said he would. You should throw a fit if you have to say "where's my tax break!?". But you know how politicians can be. I know some upper class who got hit hard in the economic crisis, they're really going to get hit hard when their taxes possibly go up due to Obama signing it in.

What should worry you, me, and us all is if Obama's idea to push for a more socialistic (it's not going to be complete socialism as some republicans love to call it) health care is if it doesn't work out the way it should.

From what I've heard you say, your taxes will be fine but your guns will not.

i am excited that my choice won (though to be fair, that happened in the last two elections...)

i will now move forward with tempered and realistic expectations, and continue to find everyone who believes we are headed towards a utopia or a hell equally retarded.

President Obama's First Step: Reset Expectations
Posted Nov 05, 2008 12:15pm EST by Henry Blodget in Newsmakers, Recession, Election
Related:

From ClusterStock, Nov. 5, 2008:

If President Elect Obama were the incoming CEO of a corporation, he would now be preparing for the first act of his tenure: A massive write-off of the mountains of rotted junk buried on the company's balance sheet and an announcement that recovery will take a long, long time.

This flush would clear the way for several years of better than expected results. It would also take advantage of the new leader's one chance to blame the sorry state of the organization on his sorry predecessor.

President Obama began this process last night, in his victory speech, when he noted that restoring the country's health might take more than a term. In the next few weeks, he should go well beyond this:

* The deficit will be more than $1 trillion a year for several years
* The country needs a massive new fiscal stimulus
* The housing market will continue to decline through at least 2010
* Interest rates and taxes will eventually have to rise (after the economy stabilizes)
* Weak corporations have to be allowed to fail
* Millions of homeowners will lose their house
* Unemployment will probably rise to 10%
* The government simply cannot "bail the country out" -- not because it lacks the will, but because it lacks the power

In short, Obama needs to acknowedge reality, erring on the side of overstating the problems and challenges, and he needs to prepare the country for several tough years. Because if he doesn't, within six months of his taking office, the country will have forgotten all about the prior administration and will instead be blaming everything on him.

no it does not, it says 'interest rates and taxes will eventually rise', there are multiple ways to do this and you can't assume that you will automatically be the person affected. technically he is already raising taxes, he's just doing it to the people who are making the most and paying the least. it's not fair to judge a second set of policies before the first set have even been pushed into legislation, let alone enforced.

And I get the feeling Yahoo! News is just as accurate as Wikipedia.
