*error various programs* via Vista

Posted 14 November 2008 - 08:42 PM

Hello....beforehand I want to thank you for your help regarding the problems I can't seem to fix. I am using Windows Vista and I have run scandisk/disk defrag/computer cleanup with various programs so all of that is taken care of for a possible "solution". I looked on various help and resource sites but can't seem to fix my problems!

First off, I don't know what is going on with my rar files but I have winrar and 7zip and everything was working fine but now every time I download compressed "Rar" files it seems to not open and give an error message that the archive is either in an "unknown format or damaged". I know this is not the case because I try to use it on multiple and various rar files I have downloaded and this is even happening on files that I have had on my computer and have worked in the past but that is not working now so I don't know what to do...I have attached a screenshot of the error message: http://www.mediafire...c7f9d03334g.jpg

Also, every time I manually open up Distiller 9.0 after it loads and goes to the Distiller screen, it automatically closes! It was working fine and I don't really use Distiller often so I am not sure when it started but does anyone know what I can do other than trying to reinstall it? Hopefully I can avoid that process. Here is a link to what I see right before it closes: http://www.mediafire...d66dbee724g.jpg

I have been using Flash CS4 pretty regularly until about a week ago and i never had any real problems but now every time I open up Flash CS4 it gives me an error message and closes. It gives me the "Adobe Flash CS4 has stopped working" and that "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire...b9d1fef9b4g.jpg

My Adobe LiveCycle Designer opens up and it was working before but when I try to open it by converting a file to a form or even creating a new form from a template, then it freezes and closes giving me a similar error message! Here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire...b181313244g.jpg

Also, sometimes during the middle of the program some of my programs freeze and close with a similar error message of "Windows is checking for a solution" and that message often comes when I even close the program. This has been mainly happening on my Adobe Contribute when I use it to edit my site, here is a screenshot: http://www.mediafire...072735f384g.jpg
Here is a screenshot of sometimes this type of error after I close a program like IE: http://www.mediafire...a6c102f6f4g.jpg

I know my post was a little posty but I appreciate any help I can get regarding this. Thanks again so much and I appreciate it once again!

The Distiller error at least seems to be known by adobe, see here and here, admittedly these are old threads but the error message is identical apart from version numbers.

The other error messages are difficult to investigate though due to their generic nature, I'd suggest investigating the Windows event logs to see if they can shed any light on matters.

Other questions to help narrow things down:

Have you updated any software or drivers recently (including windows updates)?
Made any hardware changes (no matter how insignificant they appear)?
As UG already asked, what AV package are you using?
