manchester won 4-3 but lost 6-5 on aggregate.
Ronaldo scored a hat-trick and beckham scored a wonder free-kick.
now for the semi...
r.madrid vs juvetus Wahoo

What does that mean (for us U.S. non-soccer worshipers)?

the game is played over two legs (two games) one game in madrid and one in manchester (making it fair to both teams)
madrid one the first game 3-1
manchester won the second game 4-3
making a combined score of
manchester 5 vs madrid 6
also if you want to know more -
away goals count double ie if the score had been 5-3 to manchester in the second game, madrid would still of won as madrid scored more away goals than manchester.
these rules are only played in major championships like 'The Champions League' etc - not domestic league games.
hope this clears it up
