Network Security

Posted 20 November 2008 - 05:37 PM

Hello Dream.In.Code!

Been coming here for a while now but just recently noticed this board. Network Security is part of IT so I thought, "Hey, why not post here!"

I am currently in school for Network Security and loving it. I am interested in working for the FBI Cyber Division, or NSA and similar positions.

Have any of you tried to take that path? I know there are many things you can do with a degree in Network Security, such as:

Firewall specialist or administrator
Disaster recovery specialist
Forensics specialist
Wireless security expert
FBI investigator
Information security officer

and Many More! My question to those of you who have chosen a similar path, If I want to head down the Government/3-Letter Organization path, what kind of job should I be looking at to start(i.e Where?)

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Well, NSA is more for cryptography, so unless you like all the math involved in being a crypto-weenie, I'd go for FBI or CIA.

I don't have any experience actualy getting jobs there, so I can't help you in that department. :P

BAWWWwww.

Haha its ok Moonbat, you have helped me enough in all of my topics =D.

And yea, I'm thinking more like FBI, just don't know if I should be looking for security jobs in like...police stations? Do they have those? Maybe military jobs? Or do a typical network admin/management for some company/bank, etc.

Well, if you're gonna pursue an FBI career or any other career that deals with potentially sensitive information, you are probably going to have to get a security clearance. Whether it's for CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, or maybe even TOP SECRET, you'll have to make sure your criminal record is clean, and that you don't associate yourself with any crazy fanatical groups (terrorists, violent racist groups, diehard Twilight fans, you get the idea).

lololol. Twilight.

No man I'm clean as a whistle. No criminal record, never done drugs, I drink alcohol as recreation, but I am of age, I don't associate with the wrong crowd, and I'm a good student.

Trying to find some guidance as to what career path I should take to get there. Hard to explain but..you know, I don't wanna waste time working for so-and-so organization when the FBI doesn't want people that worked for those companies, they want people who worked for so-and-so company..

I appreciate your input, and the laughs! :D
