We're growing and in order to better organize the vast amounts of information we have, improve the overall DIC experience, and generally keep DIC an awesome place, we're planning a rebirth of sorts. Since DIC is for you, I want to hear your suggestions.
I've setup a UserVoice account where you can suggest, vote, and comment on ideas specific to the Dream.In.Code Rebirth. We'll try to take every idea in to consideration as we plan and create the new DIC.

This is a great idea skyhawk...I encourage all members to make their voices heard on things they feel could help the site grow, improve, and serve them better.

Thanks Amadeus. I realize it's a little more work to leave your ideas at the UserVoice site, but I wanted to reduce the signal/noise ratio and see what features were really the most important to the community.
If you have an idea, just type it in the "I'd Suggest" field at the UserVoice site. You can vote for the ideas that I've put up there already, or register to leave a comment.

Cobol forums.
Almost all the colleges I've ever looked into have first year students learning Cobol.
Since the Cobol 85 standards won't be changing anytime soon... if ever... I think its a good idea to found a base for better education in these areas.
I understand that a lot of seasoned programmers prefer C over Cobol... but fundamentally Cobol is used in a LOT of business applications.
If I can think of anything else I'll mention it
BTW: I've taken 3 classes on Cobol and wrote a Hotel Management System in Cobol 5+ years ago, and now it is use at my previous place of employment (A Chain of Hotels)... It definitely isn't a dead language... but it certainly isn't supported enough on the net. Documentation is easy to find, but support of a GREAT community like this is what Cobol needs.
*EDIT*
Also, not to mention I have a good 15-20 applications that I could use in TUTORIALS for this language, I think we have a solid idea here!

Don't post what you have to say here. Go to the link that skyhawk posted in the first post of this topic. That is where your voice will be heard by the masses and us of course.

I just wanted to sya that I really like the new look. Streamlined, spacey even. Goes well with the high tech talk that goes on around here

You guys have to have some other ideas. There's no way 10 things encompass your DIC wants and desires.
Thanks for those of you who have voted so far. Keep checking back and add comments to the ideas you think might be good with some additional info.

Let me give some more detail about what our plans are. First, we'll be doing a complete redesign. So if you have ideas for a new design, how to organize certain information, things you want to see in the design, things you don't want to see (i.e. Lose the members online box).
Second we'll be upgrading the forums and with that comes some new features, but also the chance to modify the forum software to include some new functionality.
Third, we'll be implementing a CMS, so if you think we should have a DIC Wiki for things like programming guides, etc. Then suggest that
And we'll also be implementing an articles system so professional freelance writers can submit programming and technology related articles that are newsworthy.

We are getting some good feedback. I spoke with someone today about the redesign, but in the mean time I'd like to assemble a group of individuals who would like to have some early input in the organization and design of content in the next version.
If you are interested in participating in the early phases of this redesign, I would like to invite you to be part of our DIC Advisers group. If you are interested, please PM me or post here and I'll get you access to that area of the site.

Registered, voted on a few ideas and posted a few of my own.
Is anyone else interested in the Wiki idea? I think it would be pretty cool, but I am out of votes...

I like the wiki idea and I too no longer have a voice over there. Can we continue to offer feedback in the advisory forum Chris?

You can take your votes off the ones that are marked "planned" now and move them to other ideas.
