Visual Java IDE?

Posted 26 November 2008 - 07:09 PM

Hi,

I'm trying to develop a simple blackjack game in Java, and it just seems a little ridiculous that that would have to be done without some sort of designer interface.
Is there any sort of IDE for java that supports a visual interface, such as Visual Basic, or Visual C#?

Thanks in advance.

NetBeans is the only one I know of that comes with one built in.

QT designer is available for Java, and it's kinda like visual studio. However from what I know you won't be able to find anything like what Microsoft has currently. Java has everything you need to code blackjack and a good GUI in the code and I think that's why it isn't that common to see a Visual IDE for Java.

I made a similar topic a few days ago and got a few recommendations. You might like to have a look:

I've not checked them all yet but NetBeans seems to be a pretty good option. Let me know what you end up doing. I might want to follow in your footsteps.

A wish you luck generating a BackGammon with an IDE
A would write my own VerticalLabel class that extends JLabel and overwrite it's paint method to draw a triangle and put them into a GridLayout that should do the trick

Java has so many nice built in GUI features. You do not need a visual basic copycat.

Ghheeez Kia agrees with me ... I'll mark that day in my calendar :D

Rethinking about it... a lot easier

Do not extends JLabel
Extend ImageIcon ... in the paint method of the Extended ImageIcon use Graphics.fillPolygon() method to draw your triangle and just put that extended IconImage a regular JLabel
The constructor of the extended ImageIcon can receice as parameter the color to use and if the triangle should be on the top or the bottom row of the board

I wrote a blackjack program for a class this semester. I used Images by themselves for the suits/cards. Implanting that image into a label or any other additional GUI is component is extraneous and not necessary; just use the drawImage() function.

Oups !!! my mistake
When I started to program in Java 6 years ago I wrote a Carribean Poker game ... ok I was a beginner so the code is far from being what I would write today, but the sources are still there www.pblinc.ca/poker you can enjoy a free Carribean poker game (I used it to practise every winter before going down south for my vacations :D )and grab whatever you want including the cards images

Now making a cards game with an IDE... don't see how

You should rewrite it and see how much better you can make it. :)
