Those who are new (like I still am) can thank someone by clicking on the link (bottom left side) that asks if they were helpful.(I believe it's green) I didn't know at the time how but now since I do I must go back and thank all you helped me in the past. We need to show appreciation and give thanks.

Does the "Thanked XX times" not update straight away as I thanked someone but their count never went up....

There is a delay in the thanks tallying up. It isn't instant. But don't worry, they got it. :)

The cron job runs every hour and updates kudos/thanks at that time. So give it an hour and you will see them update.
