Images With Ie

Lately, I can't see images on pages. They just show up as red X's. It also craps out every so often. Is this IE (ver. 6) or my ISP? I think I might be missing a .dll file from my C:/Windows/System folder.

Or, are you on dialup? If its just all over the web then its one of two things:
Your connection SUCKS and won't load images correctly. This used to happen to me on dialup before.
The website didn't upload or reference the images correctly, which you can't do anything about.

This happens on any page at any random time, it's happening right now. I cannot see half the images on this DIC page. When it said "page cannot be displayed", it said (in the status bar) that it wasn't loading shdoclc.dll
So I downloaded it from this SITE. I want it to replace the old one (since it has seemed to go bad) in the Windows/System folder, but I can't because it's being used. How can I do it?

since the file is being used when windows is running try and replace it in DOS, if your running XP you will have to make a boot disk.

I am on Windows 98. I was told to reboot in safe mode, delete Internet Explorer, and then re-install it. What do you think?

I dont beleive you can delete Internet Explorer, even in safe mode, windows uses it 100% of the time.
However it has been awhile since I moved over to XP, I maybe wrong.

since your on 98 its easier.
1. boot up into DOS
2. find the new shdoclc.dll
3. use the command "copy shdoclc.dll C:\Windows\System"
i would keep a backup of the original just incase it doesnt work.

Just copy it, and put it on a disk, or put it in another folder where you wont forget where you put it.

Sorry to bring up this old post, but I finally tried to fix this problem. I rebooted, went into safe mode, and attempeted to delete the old shdoclc.dll file, but it still said that it was being used by Windows.
Any help?

Exactly what I was going to say... you'd probably be best just reformatting. Plus it'll make your system clean and nice and fast. Just make sure to backup everything.

That seems like a lot of work just to fix one problem. Isn't there another way?
