Looks like Mr. Jobs may have over stated his case for the G5. Here is a link to Haxial describing modifications that influenced the benchmarks. Now fortified with 100% of your daily allowance Mac User Flamage!

Now, I'm not so naive to believe everything on the 'net (would take it almost as gospel if it were Tom's), but if this is how they inflated the Mac numbers.....

<edit> @ ~9:34a edt Haxial was Slashdotted. Try again later </edit>

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've heard all the who-ha. They're still going to be fast as fucking hell, and you know it. Especially when they reach 3.0 GHz by this time next year.

Notice his kick ass come back for the fact that Photoshop and Logic (you know, the actual reason people use computers) kicked the shit out of the PC? He sort of suggests that the tests weren't real? I don't even get it.

Ever heard of an attention whore? If that guy was a girl she would got to spring break to try to get on girls gone wild.

Even if it is IBM's chip, dirty tests are dirtyy tests. Yeah, they'll be faster (almost anything would be over a G4 (or even dual G4)). Let the holy war begin again, either way I'm betting on IBM.

>>Incase you havn't followed the news, get over to Slashdot. It seems that Apple may have optimized the benchmark compilers (etc.) for their G5 chip, while using a generic-port for Intel (rather than using it's native, fastest compilers (etc.)) The excuse is that the G5 could acutally be faster under it's own fastest compilers.

Just like a Lancer Evolution V vs. a Diablo, it's about where(how) you run it. You woun't take a Lancer on the track vs. a Diablo; you wouldn't take a G5 vs. a Xeon @ C(+|++|#) w/o a handicap of some kind.

Then again I have been accused of talking out my a$$...

Hey I think it is great that IBM stepped up and is making Procs for Apple. Bout time some one wanted to be competitive with Wintel maby a threat that apple will take some of Microsofts market share will cause M$ to straighten up and fly right. ehh probally not seing as ole Bill G has a controlling share of apple stock that he bought so that the company would not go under in the Pre Return of Jobs days. Any Who Mac Freaks Bout time you got some updates may your system of choice prosper. Ill keep using my Win2k/knoppix ( X serve overlaid on top of a windows desktop) so that I can have all the linux functionality and still use active directory to manage the non geeky at work. If the man tells me that were going to a mac network so be it. it is just 1's and 0's for chrissakes.
Ohh a new model lets get into a richard pulling contest.

BIG BLUE BABY    OOOOHHHHH YEAHHH
Wait Didnt they make Cyrix Chips First ?  that were avtually 1/3 slower then their rating

QUIET!!!! Thou shalt speak no evil of Big Blue!!!! (& IIRC Cyrix was purchased by IBM, the first time in 20+ years they made processors).

Worship the symbol. You love IBM! From here out all will have been tainted by it (as well as the other 2 of the trinity, Intel & M$; w/o them IBM would never have purchased Cyrix or embraced Linux......)

</close.age(PC1)> WintelBM wins!

footnote: as soon as I get my IBM logo tatoo, I'll post it here..... (proudly warn on my car already!)

I Stand corrected My facts were fuxxored post edited to reflect same

But no slight to Big Blue.As a matter of fact I am working to implement a new AS400 that will replace both of the 600 series 400s here and still have 2 virtual 400's left over for development and so on. Ahh the AS 400 over 20 yrs old and still unhackable the thing will even call IBm and say that it is gaing to break and request it's own service calls now that is a good workstation.

Sweet looking case. Looks like the mods I'm working on right now (though mine is powdered 60's pale Green...)

BTW, who the hell (if you're actually concerned about heat) would run their cables like that PC? Far from optimal airflow. Funny that the Mac case seems to have *no* cables at all... Drive 'B' at the top isn't even plugged in! (Look at the molex in the upper right corner.)

Still, it is pretty.
