I like NetBeans - NetBeans

You can get the Java runtime here - Java SE Downloads

Once you have the runtime installed you can get NetBeans and the JDK here:

JDK 6u11 with NetBeans 6.5

How about the one that comes by default in the Java SE SDK? If you downloaded the Java SDK it comes with everything you need to make a java program for free.

Just compile using the command line... c:\>javac filename.java

If you meant IDE then you have already had a few answerers tell you about netbeans, eclipse etc

I might be off track answering your question but I use Dr. J IDE and used Sun Microsystems Java 1.4 complier. I think the Java compilier is up to Java 1.6 now.

If you need the latest compilier, you can always go to www.sun.com and search for the SDK.

I hope this helps...
