Action Script 2.0 question...

Posted 29 December 2008 - 09:33 PM

My question is that... is there a specific code or script on saving a .txt file or a flat file and can it open or load it back? I am only familiar on retrieving and saving in a MySQL database...

Flash is not natively allowed to save files; however you can do it through Adobe AIR and AS 3.0.

The easiest way to have Flash open and write a file is to send calls to a server-side page that is set up to read and write files for the flash application. You can do this with a client computer if you set up a socket connection with said computer and then send the appropriate commands. However, this requires that you write a program (likely java or python for ease of distribution) that acts like a server and is running, listening for socket connections on a given port. The user must download your program and set it to run before it will be able to work.

Hope that makes sense.

Flex can program in AS3, for swf or air applications. But again it can't natively do File stuff (unless you are using AIR libraries, I guess that a few of those allow for file IO).

Flex (from what I know) is the same thing as flash, but just the code view, no graphics to go along with it. I haven't ever used it though, so I may be wrong.
