Having been a network tech for a long time my wife purchaced a new Acer Aspire M5641 and called me in to troubelshoot the network connection.
I went in to network connection and verified the IP addres, Subnet mask DNS1 and DNS2 addressres she put in and it pretty much matched my networks address. I checked the packet TX/RX rate and see that it is sending out packet frames but not reciving them. Ipconfig said that media was disconected. I know that the molded patch cable was known to be working so hooked my laptop up to it and went onto the internet just fine.
Now I never did verify that both work stations can see each other in the same work group and mabey I should try that. Never less, All tcp/ip settings seem to be correct.
This is a static tcp/ip network running on 192.168.x.x
I looked in google and mostly got feedback on laptop made by acer with this issue but no desktops. Perhaps there is changes made to the lattest incarnation of vista where connectivity though a FW/Proxy is a issue on its part?
If you have seen this issue please give me a idea on what it could be.
Thanks
