I've seen a few threads lately discussing the importance of math skills in programming. I personally think it's important to know your math when programming and polls on this site has showed that most people (majority even) tend to have the same opinion.
Yet mathematics has no dedicated space on the site. It's a huge subject but I doubt I have even seen a thread about math. Therefore I'd like to propose that an area is created for math tutorials where people can post anything from simple math examples to advanced calculus or algebra.
Math TutorialIs there room for one? Would it be of interest?

Yes, I think this would be a good idea.
As Math skills are important in programming, and tutorials of this type would best be in a section suited more for general Math skills then a specific language or such.

It'd be completely hit or miss. i.e. a wonderful place for people to congregate math questions and the like or it will be a cesspool of homework requests. Ugh.

Sounds like a good idea. I'd definitely take part quite a bit.
Like KYA said though, it would most likely just be filled with kids posting a big formula and saying can sum1 do this 4 me pl0xx.

This is basically the same thing as someone posting the assignment details on a programming question and saying:
"Give me da codez now, due in 1 hour."
Just point out the policy that they need to put some effort in the problem by posting the work already done.

Yes.. Same rules apply.
Are people asking those kinds of questions in the tutorials as well? I haven't looked very closely at them.
I don't think having an open math forum would be good either. That's why I'm suggesting tutorials. Alot of 'halp with teh codez' questions could easier be answered by just referring to some underlying math.
Exs:
Calculating interest rates.
Pascals Triangle
Factorials
Powers
Primes
Base-conversion
Logics
and so on...

All of which can be found in less then 5 seconds on google or wikipedia.

That is true but not always with some reference to programming.

In which case a tutorial on how to do things like integrals, etc.. would be better suited to the language forum its written in or the general software dev maybe?

I wouldn't mind some more tutorials or information on algorithms (comp sci) to help illustrate the math involved, but I am very much opposed to allowing general homework questions outside of the scope of programming or web development.
I understand where you're coming from and appreciate the idea. But there are so many other resources available for general homework help that we aren't going to do anything better/different by having questions here.
As much as I want you guys to never have to leave DIC
there are lots of things that you can (and should) go to other, more appropriate, sites for.
