I have come to the conclusion that my work needs to follow me around in the form of a kick ass laptop.

Help me find the best laptop ever!

This is my dream machine:

• 17" WXGA (1440x900?) & a port for a second monitor. TV out is also a great thing to have
  
• Integrated 802.11g
  
• High end processor (new 800Mhz Hyperthreading P4?)
  
• at least 512M ram, i'd like a gig though
  
• 6-pin firewire & 4-pin firewire & usb2.0 I use them all
  
• DVD-CDR combo drive
  
• A laptop drive that doesn't suck, and a quiet one! I hate my sister's noisy harddrive! I use tons-o-space so a heafty one, can I get over 80Gig?
  
• As full of a keyboard as I can get. I don't use the number pad often, but I use [Ins], [Del], [Home], [End], [PgUp], and [PgDn] ALL THE TIME! Too much to be functioned under the arrow keys.
  
• A nice battery. Obviously something of this stature and power is going to need the power, but I would like to be able to go at LEAST 2 hours without plugging her in again.
  
• I've seen webcams build into the laptops before. That sounds cool, but if its crap quality cam then forget it.
  
• Floppy drive? It's not too important. Id rather add a second hardrive or battery.
  
• Clean harddrives! I don't want to spend money on an OS or software I will never touch!
  
• I don't care about dimensions or weight as much as the next guy. This is more a portable desktop replacement than it is a mobile solution. I just want the big ass screen, and to be able to carry it without developing poor posture.
  
• USB bootable? thumb drives rule.

Does such a marvel exist? I'm thinking about getting one in the next few months, and my budget is flexable. Help me search!

Ok, thats damn scary how close it is to what I want. It's a little dated as its still using 533Mhz and not the new 800Mhz bus. It doesnt have the powered 6-pin firewire, and uh... It's awesome.

Now It's time to save money.

Alienware Area-51m

I know its the same as the Sagar, but the new design looks awesome, and sleeker. The mid level one is on par with that sagar.

the new alienware laptop isn't a sager clone. I don't know why they didnt use clevo this time around, but im sure they are happy with what they got.

gaaah, two reasons im not getting an alienware:

1) supremely overpriced. Its about $300 more than the sager when configured to be not as good (lacking an extra 80Gig, etc)
2) ugliest design i have ever seen. Last thing i want on my laptop is funky looking grips and a giant alien head.

I think Ill be just fine with my better model for $300 cheaper.
