Digital Picture Frame

Posted 18 August 2003 - 04:21 AM

I made a digital picture frame for my wife for her birthday. The screen is 8.5 / 11 and it has a wireless card so we can update the pictures from upstairs. I made the frame out of affrican padauk wood. The whole thing turned out really well, it now has a mouse sitting on the desk below it so you can check the weather, tv listings, or news on the net.

Here's some pictures of making it and the back of it

My Dad and I where gonna make one, but the laptop we got for it crashes all the time. I'd rather not have a BSOD hanging on the wall. lol

Good job, though!

The laptop was a P-II 300Mhz, 256Mb mem, 10Gb hd, 14.1in LCD w/ 4Mb video card, SMC wireless card.

It's running win 98, with some photo screen saver I found on download.com. Pretty basic, but I didn't need much to run the screen saver and browse the internet.

The laptop I had sitting around so all I spent was $18 for the padauk board, $2 for the mat, $4 for the poplar wood around the back, $5 for spar urethane, and a few bucks for misc hardware and stuff.

I think I saw sony making these a few years ago. Only it was a desktop unit that ran off memorystick and transisioned between all your shots on the memory stick. I don't know if it's still on the market, but that was one cool toy.
