His point still stands. You're simply regurgitating information that was spoon fed to you.

This topic is so 20th Century. The liberals have realize that they've been flamed too much by thinking people, the scientific community, and some courts in Britain, so the new mantra is "global climate change." See, a leopard can change its spots.
The graph presented earlier was one of the best pieces of evidence I've seen to support a change in temperature. However, its flawed by the fact that, although it may be accurate, it only covers ~150 years, so it seems to be a micro change in climate. For a real look, I think you need to consider several 500 year periods.
Interesting that it starts around the time of the explosion of Krakatoa (sp?) Is Al Gore keeping an eye on the Ring of Fire ... I wonder how those areas are doing with carbon offsets>?

Amen. The "hockey stick" graph that Al Gore presented to the UN was the biggest piece of bullshit I have ever seen.

Consider that for every scientist that says global warming is a real threat, there are others that say its not. I dont have alot of faith in scientists and doctors and the so called "smartest people in the room". Doctors say everything causes cancer and they are often wrong about many things that were previously thought true. The same for scientists. If it were such an undeniable fact that global warming was real, you wouldnt even have all this debate.

The computer may not be the best example, as the ATX power supply has been designed with many improvements involving power consumption & BIOS's ability to power off individual devices.

This post made me laugh quite a bit. I wonder - what do you do when you are ill or break a bone? I'm not sure what doctors have to do with global warming, but try and reign in the logical fallacies for a bit please?
Regarding scientists - it all depends. Depending on the specialties they *might be* the smartest people in the room. If I have a room full of random people talking about geology I am going to defer a liberal portion of 'correctness' the to geologist regarding the matters.

I personally think that global warming is a threat. It's not necesserily a threat to me, per se, but to my great-great-great-great-great-.....great grandchildren. Meh. Sucks for them
. Still, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't be concientious of how we do things.
Inconvenient Truth was a load of shit. Half the time he was riding in a taxi talking to himself. For cereal, how can he be cereal?! *throws a 5-year-old-like temper tantrum*

Global Warming is the theory that us humans caused the Earth the heat up. The earth is heating up, everyone knows that, but it is crap to believe that us humans actually caused all this. First of all, haven't scientist found evidence that an mini-iceage will occur in the near future? Second, the earth has been warming and cooling for as long as rain has been falling on the earth. Third, we can't do anything to stop this warming of the Earth. 3.5, even if we could do something, it is like a big semi truck, we have seen it coming on the horizon for years, and now it is so close that we cannot get out of the way of the beast without harm.
In conclusion... Humans did not start this, but it is Humanity's fault that they haven't done anything about it until now.

A volcano eurrupting causes more pollution than we have in an entire century past.
We do affect the global temperatures (by a few degrees, nothing more). But it's insignifficant.

saw a pretty interesting documentary on the discovery channel the other day. They said that while global warming does exist it has been offset by "global dimming" . Something about pollution particals getting trapped in clouds and due to the increased crap in the clouds, rain molecules have more stuff to bind to and so stay in the sky a lot longer. The result of this is that light(and heat) from the sun get reflected and so don't reach the surface of the planet, thus keeping the planet cooler than what it should be.
results in changing weather patterns blah blah blah. Basically we're damned if we do and damned if we don't sorta thing

If you get too hot, the only thing you can do is strip naked.
If you get too cold, you can pile on more and more and more etc.
I think we should choose the latter.

...Nicely done, KYA. LET'S GET THIS GLOBAL WARMING STARTED!!!!

I hear you, Hyper. You can only take off so much, but you can put on A LOT of clothes to keep warm.
Does anyone else find it funny that a Global WARMING thread is in the HEATED Topics forum?

It wasn't that funny.
Locke, I'd go out and protest against global warming like all the other folks at those huge rallys they make but, it's just too gosh darn cold to be protesting about global warming! I mean it's all snowy and wet and rainy and cold and everything else.

not much proof as to the existence of global warming
Even the "global warming is a myth" crowd ultimately have to concede that there is a warming trend since people started recording the numbers. What's really in debate is whether those numbers reflect a cause and effect relationship between people and the environment, or if they simply reflect a cyclic nature of global trends through history.
Many feel there is a direct relation between global trends and population and industrialization. The has been shown often. But it's fairly abstract and those who choose not to believe can still ignore it and hope it will go away.
For those in denial, I offer this simple scenario. I have an large empty room, it's not heated or air conditioned, so it's usually about the same temperature as outside. If a few people are in the room, the temperature does seem to change. However, the room will get warmer if enough people stay in the room.
Humans are non regulated animals on the planet. Our population is not controlled by environment like other critters, so we grow unchecked. Even if we produced zero industrial pollutants, our volume alone would throw the system out of whack.
In simplest terms: If the Earth suddenly had ten billion more cows than it had yesterday, and they all farted, it's hard to argue there would be no impact.
I agree, completely.
Also, I'd like to point out that just because the winters are colder doesn't mean global warming is a myth. Global warming screws everything up.
