Xp Nic Driver Problem

Posted 14 September 2003 - 11:18 AM

recently my main computer that acts as a gateway to the rest of the network stopped being able to access the network. the internet still works on it so the internet NIC is fine, its just the network NIC im having problems with.

I checked the properties of the NIC and things such as Netbeui appear to have disappeared, they were all previously installed. When i try to re-add this component i am told that windows was unable to find any drivers for this device. When i try to re-install the drivers from sources such as the correct driver disk i am told that the currently installed drivers are the most up to date.

When i try to run the network connection wizard i am just presented with an error at the end. the NIC is a kingston. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the NIC, XP always installs its own drivers when i log in to my area so i dont get a chance to install the NIC with any other driver.

anyone got any ideas?
thx.

Dont you hate it when stuff like that stops working out of the blue ?

Ive never heard of Windows XP Not having drivers for a NIC, and if it's loading its own drivers I would Advise not using the drivers on the disk, Windows is ushally right about its own drivers although sometimes its not when it comes to like video and sound cards, Ive seen the issue where it cant find drivers for something, the drivers are there but there is a problem somewhere else, what ive done with problems in the past is completely uninstall it and put the card into a different PCI Slot, its not that the PCI slot your using is bad or anything but that gives the computer a completely refreshed look at your PCI card, in this case, a NIC card, let windows install its drivers and then run the network setup, that should work fine, if not the problem may lie somewhere else.
