The whole "Greeter" thing

Posted 30 January 2009 - 05:56 PM

I was AFK for like 15-20 minutes... and I come back to check the new posts and see that the new "Greeter" that has been taken into staff FLOODED the forum with useless posts.

None of the posts made were any worth while... and it just seemed too copy + paste to be worth something.

Listen, I agree with the whole "Greeter" thing and the fact that it gets new members coming to the community... but when I check the New Posts to find that the site has been flooded with useless 1 second posts, it kind of defeats the purpose.

Maybe remove "New Post" flags from the Introduce Yourself forum... or restrict it to New Topics only.

Or be more specific on the rules Greeters must follow.

Just another bit of my $0.02 here.

I agree and this goes against what I've asked ValPaliy and the other greeters to do. I've asked people to only reply to a couple at a time.

I will have a word with him about this.

It's not just only replying to a couple of people at a time... its the fact that the "Greeters" should be more personable. If someone's introduction says they are here to learn HTML and CSS and want to learn basic web development, a greeter should help them by pointing to specific resources available in the subject they are interested in.

You're on the ball tonight aren't you sky? You got RSS feeds on your cell or something?

I get notifications of new topics in certain forums yes :)

And I agree it's a slap in the face to the person introducing themselves, and the people that do take the time to genuinely welcome new members like ayman, Martyr2, OliveOyl, no2pencil, markhazlett9, and others.

Just greet a few people each day, and you'll get a greeter badge. There's a pinned topic about it in the Intro forum. :)
