Where'd the avatars go?

It's weird. I can't see Martyr's, Locke's, etc... but I can see others. Only reason I ask is because the people whose i can't see almost always have one up. Anyone else experiencing this?

yep.. I AM! My *Linux Inside* avatar is gone...

I was about to post this aswell.

Is someone messing with the server files? I don't understand how like 100,000 avatars could just go missing... unless someone pressed the wrong key

Perhaps the whole internet is down, its made of tubes you know...and tubes can get clogged :)

Now that I think of it, about 30 minutes ago this site was down for about 10 minutes. During which time I transcribed 8 lines of "Yesterday" by the Beatles from Guitar to the Ukulele.

Related problems? Possibly...

I actually noticed it the other day though.

Can you explain to me how you would filter an image? Did Sky design an OCR like program to recognize "Penises" and "Vaginas" so that kids don't put a porno avatar on their account and get people in trouble for browsing DIC Porn @ work?

I don't think so....

Anyways, I have a feeling avatar data is stored on an external server / file server and it is down for the time being? Also, data loss isn't uncommon with server crashes (which happened twice today)

I just noticed that many of the avatars are missing, this can't just be me, can it?
Mine, Skyhawk's and many others are missing, though a few remain, what gives?

Mine was missing for the whole day... then I just made a new one in photoshop a few minutes ago to hold me over until it's fixed :)

I do, but I would expect to find something related to the site under 'site feedback', lol, perhaps i'll merge them.

I attempted to go to the address my avatar is at and it claims forbidden, sounds like a permissions issue.

My guess as to why some remain is that they're from external sites. (Like mine for instance)

EDIT: Yup, it's the uploads folder. No attachments are displaying either. "Forbidden" on anything in the upload folder.

Sounds like someone's been playing with .htaccess again. ;)

More people's avatars are gone and every picture on the front page is an orange D now. User uploaded photos gone too BUT I've noticed it's restricted to .png files. People's photos and avatars, if they are .JPG and .GIF still work. I tried uploading a .jpg of my avatar and it said there was an upload error.

I sent Hawk a PM before I realized he probably already has like 800 "Where'd da avatarz go?!1?1?1/1?" in is inbox. Sorry Hawk. I bet you we're getting Haxored again for the 8th time. Better change your passwords to something that you use only for this website if it isn't already for safety.

Hi, Chris!
Something's wrong with avatars - I can't see most of the avatars, including my own, plus on OliveOyl's posts there's a "string avatar = "";" visible. That should not be there :blink:
I thought changing the avatar might help, but it didn't, thus I thnk it's the database holding the images...
Anyway this could be fixed?

All fixed. Simple permissions issue. We're checking how it got changed now.
