After Effects, Anyone?

Posted 22 December 2003 - 01:12 PM

Just wondering if anyone here works with after effects. I'm learning it by doing a motion project for illustrain now. If anyone has any good resources, tutorials, post em up. Just seeing if anyone here uses it really. :)

http://www.tutorialf...e/aftereffects/

found a bunch here. There really isn't too many good ones out there that I can find. I'm just experimenting alot.

If anyone can find some tuts or give me some info on compressing video or codecs or whatever - thats something I realllllly need now. (ask megamu ;)) Or if anyone knows how to save an mpeg - I can't figure that out either. Only like mov, avi, etc.

I used to use it all the time at school, until I realized that I didnt really like doing motion graphics all that much. I still remember most of it, and have to use it every now and again. I know that I have tuts at home, but I dont think that they are in any kind of digital format, think that a lot of them are booklets and what not. When I get home ill look around and post anything that I think might help.

As far as the MPEG thing...that I cant figure out either. As luck would have it I was trying to export as that the other day on it. The export options in the render queue/output module are dictated by whatever media players/codecs that you allready have installed on your machine to begin with. I didnt have the MPEG option, so I dunno.

As far as compression goes...the best one for .mov in my experience is Sorenson 3, and the best for .avis are cinepak. Best compression with the least chance of the end users computer not wanting to play it. Of course, that is just MY experience, I dont keep up on digital video practices that much so that info could be slightly dated. File size still to big, one obvious trick is to mess with the FPS and bring it down to the neighbohood of 15.

Most importantly, before you click the render button, turn your sound off. When its done AE plays the most annoyingly gay sound bite known to man.

Haha, I already experienced the gayest sound byte, but its not that bad.

Ahh, I didn't know that the modules are dictated but whats already installed, thanks for clearing that up - I'll research it a bit more. :)

I started picking up on it about 3 days later. I mean if you want to do something you kind of have to research how to do it. Like to rename a layer you have to hit enter (wtf?), and I couldn't figure out AT ALL how to do that for like a week. I mean its basic keyframing and stuff once you get the hang of it. Was hard at first though.

hope that helps any. if you can get the adobe classroom in a book for after effects 5.0 (it costs about $45) get that. it will teach you all the basics and some sweet cheesey eye candy.
