It was rediculous, but it still makes me mad that women were so stupid to allow that to happen.

The divorce rate was a lot lower in the 50's.
This day and age the Adultery rate is through the roof.

That's a huge assumption on your part. It was a different time, a different era. 50's women didn't really have a bad deal in context. When you look back and try to put that in today's context, its "appalling" in your opinion and its not really a valid comparison.

However, if you just wanna get on your soap box and rant, I'm going to hide under a rock.

Ugly times those were.

Please. Let's all wring our wrists and whine about how women are so powerless and marginalized in past and presnt society.

KYA, while still young, unwittingly takes a life long vow of celibacy...

I didn't see anything in KYA's post about getting married...

I'm not saying women have it easy. BUT the playing field is even if not slightly tilted in favor of women. Anyone one who denies that is just wrong.

I deny thee!

Actually, I agree, for a given context. There are some venues were gender doesn't play a significant role; say owner of certain small businesses. In this scenario, there are a number of "Woman Owned" business incentives not available to men. The assumption is the field is not level, so when it is the well intended balances fall to the other side.

IT seems to be the most liberal technical fields when it comes to gender. But if your passion is automotive repair and you have ovaries, you're screwed. It's not that a garage wouldn't hire you, though most wouldn't. It's that the male dominated shop will make woman unwelcome, either actively or passively. I've yet to see the back room of any kind of machine shop that didn't have some kind of naked or near naked female pinup. It's just that kind of crowd.

I work in an industrial plant. Only one of the "foremen" is female. To do her job she has to be "one of the guys." I once had a long talk with her while upgrading her terminal. She confided her position was challenging and she seemed to have to work harder to get stuff done. Honestly, I got the sense it was emotionally draining if not soul crushing.

No they are not, what you see is a shop with a picture from another magazine, with text from an economics textbook from 1950.

Now get back in the kitchen.

I like how the most innocent conversations in the lounge turn into crazy topics about stuff like this.

That's because there are always a select few looking for conflict. They thrive on it.

A woman I work with has these pages laminated and hung at her desk. They are from the actual magazine from 55.

I found it pretty amusing and wanted to share. Pretty crazy that this was EXPECTED of women back in the 50's and so on.

Now I can see why you women hate men :P

Honestly, I will just never get this right, but don't blame me for trying..., no women as a rule do not hate men, remember half the rules were made by women.
If women r meant to cook and clean, then well does not mean they are'nt dreaming about programming while they r busy, ask my husband he should know.. by the way if u can find him I'm offering a reward

I personally agree with the article, things were fine until woman started becoming the 'man' in the relationships. I am however more lenient on it since in this world we both usually work, and woman are not slaves. So the man doing some chores is fine with me, theirs just a point where the mans the head of the house, and some work is better suited for a man and some better for a woman, i.e Your not going to let your wife clean the gutter or install the irrigation system, not that she cant do it, its just not right to let her, but instead she takes care of the house (inside). I dunno I'm personally old school. Each person has a role in their life they need to fulfill and each person should stick to their role.

NOTE:
I am talking here about Married people not single but the same closely applies... To me at least.

This is a total aside from the thread. :: cough ::

BenignDesign IS FEMALE!?!?!?!?!

I've read hundreds of your posts and never thought that was the case.

I'm thinking I'm a bit dense perhaps.
