so i'm puttin the fucking deathgrip heatsink on and i slip a little to the left trying to allign the 3 clips properly. it doesn't go down so i pick up the fucking thing and LOW AND BEHOLD - a chip.

a chip that is my fault and isn't covered under waranty.

those fucking CPUs are too damn sensitive. (the CPUS since been replaced and i've stepped from 450 celeron to a tasty 2ghz barton amd)

always get a shim, they help dissapate heat and add extra support for huge CPU sincs.

They're usually the height of the die, so as it doesn't put all the pressure on the die itself, but spreads it throughout the shim. just put it between the cpu and your HSF.
