It's not segregation, or categorization so much as it is community bonding.

To summarize:

d.i.c premium =
- Closer knit community
- Better Content Overall
- Support your favorite site
- Show others you support the site
... and a few other things that I'm way to tired to come up with

Brilliant idea!

If you want to alienate half of the few active memebers you have left.

I can't say I like the idea at all, and I will say that I am not going to fork over any money.

That's fine, so you're out a sticker, a free email addy, a very small amount of hosting space, and eventually a community that has provided it's presence free of charge, banner free, ad free, for 3 years now.

Premium is in effect, have you seen any changes on the site?! Has it effected non-premium members in anyway?

<ramble>I once signed up at a site for a premium membership... it was $25... I used the site twice... why did I pay!? Cause it helped me with something worth much more than that (not money... knowledge)</ramble>

Holy fuck, I don't get:

* a stupid ass sticker
* ANOTHER e-mail address (anybody that goes here probably already has several)
* FIVE megabytes of web space on a subdomain when I already have 2 GB on my own domain(s)

And your last point is correct. I will lose the community because when people post in the UBER SPECIAL 1337 forum instead of elsewhere, the activity that the public can see is even less than it has been lately.

You're going to end up with no postings in the public areas, and a select few paying for your super-sized Go Active ® happy meal.

This wouldn't annoy me so much if there wasn't an exclusive VIP forum. If that weren't part of the ploy, I might have even considered upgrading just to support the place!

I've been here since 01. I hope you don't cause me to leave.

Gneato, I hope you don't choose to leave either, you obviously did not detect the high level of sarcasm in my post. You're not missing out is my point. You have neither gained, nor lost anything, by choosing not to support the community you have belonged to since 2001.

The "Exclusive" forums are not community forums, it is a help forum, a forum for exclusive interviews, and that's it. If you feel that by providing a methodology for dedicated members to support the community... it will fall apart, you have completely missed the point of the membership. The idea was never to segregate, or discourage members/premium members from participating or continuing the community, but to bring those members who feel inclined to support the community even closer to the community.

If you have ever had the chance to take managerial classes, you will find out that some people are driven by money, some are driven by self worth, and others are driven by praise and rewards.

To operate a successful community, as the manager of this community, I have chosen to provide those that are driven by money (in this case the investment of money) an outlet to show their support and take part in the community. You may be one of the other 2 types, self worth (knowing you've helped out), or praise and rewards (competitions/prizes)

As a side note, your attitude here over the past week has not been what it used to be, I'm not sure if something is bugging you or what, but I encrouage you to discuss it with myself, or another adminstrator in private if you feel it is related to the operation of these forums or another members behaviour/actions.

eh, chris has been bumping anyone with 2000 posts up to premium anyways (i dont really like it, i just dont care) so its not like it really matters. i have asked chris however to keep a list that we can make public of who's money went to what in benefitting the site so everyone can see it.

It's only been the past couple of days, and my attitude in each thread directly reflects my opinion of the subject.

I've only posted in three threads this past week, and my statements made are indipendent and do not form a trend at all.

For the posts in this thread: http://forums.dreami...?showtopic=9181

My comments were fitting and, though harsh to a degree, represent exactly my opinion of Matt Kasper's underhanded attack on a fellow programmer's CLIENT's religion. That was the Site Check, not a forum suitable for religious (or anti-religious) debate.

As you can see by my post yesterday in supersloth's monitor thread ( http://forums.dreami...?showtopic=9173 ), I have no such extreme "attitude" as your scanners seem to have detected.

Yeah, I'm sorry chris but gneato has expressed his opinions in a valid manner this entire time. Attacking his 'attitude' when he's done nothing wrong was out of hand. Not everyone is going to agree wtih the Premium feature. Hell, I really don't, but he has been a faithful member and deserves a little more respect than that.

Fair enough, I was concerned with his attitude, the threads I read came across as 'abrasive' in my eyes. It is difficult to read people online, but it seemed like gneato had posted in a manner not indicitive of his normal personality. I was only expressing my concern. Often times a member may express feelings due to something said or the actions of another member, including myself.

I will give you all the respect in the world until you give me none. While your opinion is valued and welcomed in this thread, the manner which you expressed it here was innapropriate:

Quote

Holy fuck, I don't get:

* a stupid ass sticker
* ANOTHER e-mail address (anybody that goes here probably already has several)
* FIVE megabytes of web space on a subdomain when I already have 2 GB on my own domain(s)

If you don't want to spend your money on a premium membership... don't... but do not attack what I have provided to those that have chosen to support dream.in.code financially. I find the above comments out of line, and innapropriate, and honestly, very disrespectful. There are 3 pages of this thread in which people conveyed the same feelings without directly attacking them.

When...if ever, I get around to getting the premium membership, just send me the sticker. I'm not needing or wanting more webspace or an email address. :)

I'm concerned with Chris' atitude as of late. He is expressing opinions different from my own, and seems to sound a little annoyed, even. Chris, I invite you to consult one of our resident psychologists about your problem.
