Need Help hosting website with personal server with Verizion

Posted 13 March 2009 - 10:00 PM

So I know that Verizon blocks port 80 by default and I was wondering how to get my website hosted. I have a domain I got from dyndns.com, and for like the first couple days it worked because of some glitch that allowed port 80 to be unblocked. I've been fiddling with the Verizon router to get the port forwarded to 8080 or something. A little help?

Thanks in advance,
Phil

If Verizon blocks the Port then that means they don;t want you to be doing this.

Now you can get around it with port forwarding but I don;t know how to do this on Verizon router as I have never used one

I've heard of people using port 8080 but I can't seem to do it. I've looked at multiple site about it.

You need to configure your hosting software to which port it will listen on.

Then you'll need to configure your router to forward those port requests to the ip of your webserver.

Last step, you'll need to inform any viewer that your domain (website) needs to have that port specified in the url.

Before anything else, I'd call customer service to verify that they do or do not allow traffic on port 80.

My advice, find a new ISP or upgrade to commercial service. If they block port 80 & you circumvent it, they can do anything to you & your service that is specified in your TOS agreement. It's not wise to bite the hand that feeds you.
