My Desktop Isnt Loading?

Posted 29 June 2004 - 08:54 PM

Hey guys,

somthing weird happend to me just now.
It has happend before in the past, but it wouldnt last.

what happens is my desktop is just the image.
I cant get the icons and the start menu and taskbar to apear.
when it did happen in the past.
I would just go to cnt alt del>restart, and when i clicked it, everything would apear or shortly after i clicked the restart, and a message about programs not responding and all sorts of errors would stop it, and i would hit cancel also cancelling the restart/shutdown.
and it would be fine then.
Now nothing is helping it, ive restarted sevral times and logged on and off users.
Is there a way to get it to show using a command?
the only way i got to this browser is with cnt alt delete, and browsing to this.

any ideas or help is appreciated.
thx

here is a screen so you know what i mean in case i dont make sense.

Other option is to restart, go in to safe mode (press F8 as the computer is booting up, should take you to a special menu) select boot from last known good configuration.

If that doesn't work, boot in to safe mode and do a restore back to last week or so (before this started happening)

yeah, sounds like you got something wacky going on with your windows, could be just windows acting up, a virus, or some sort of super spyware, i would get a hold of a copy of Norton System works and run the WinDoctor, and do a virus scan with some good antivirus software...

looks like what happens when explorer freezes. make sure none of your apps are breaking explorer. go into msconfig (run-> type in 'msconfig') and go into your startup, shut everything you dont know off. restart, and slowly turn stuff on again until it breaks.

one day, firefox will replace explorer, and everything will be bliss.

but yes, do as sloth says and try and locate the problem by closing tasks after the problem presents itself again.

firefox will never replace explorer and thats a good thing. one of the reasons ie sucks so much is because they sacrificed security and good browsing for integration in the system.
