User/Custom Controls Disappearing From Toolbox

Posted 20 March 2009 - 09:40 PM

The title explains the gist of it. I have five user controls. At first I had four, and they all showed up fine.

1) I tried changing the name of one of my controls (capitalizing a letter that wasn't). The file itself updated but the control's item in the toolbox did not.
2) I then built, rebuilt, and then compiled (ran/debugged) it to see if that fixed the issue.
3) This had no effect. The file (solution explorer) was correctly named, but the toolbox item did not show up.

Five minutes later...

1) I built the project again and all custom/user controls disappeared from the toolbox.
2) I cleaned and rebuilt the project to no effect.
3) I compiled (debugged/ran) the project, and the controls reappeared (that one control still had the old name).
4) I built the project. The custom/user controls disappeared.
5) I compiled (debugged/ran) the project. The custom/user controls reappeared. Seeing a pattern?

Five minutes later again (I just dealt with the issue until this point)...

1) I added the fifth user control. It was completely blank with no added code.
2) Building the project, rebuilding, and cleaning/rebuilding showed only the old four controls, NOT the newest one.
3) This fifth control was meant to hold one of the other four, so I added one of that control onto this fifth one.
4) I rebuilt (they disappeared as usual), and compiled...
5) The fifth control AND the custom/user control I added to it do not show up any more. ONLY the other three.

I try to be detailed. I don't know what the hell is causing this. Various combinations of [/i]compiling, building, rebuilding, cleaning, toolbox modifications, VS restarts, and VS Run As Admin [/i] have had no effect.

Sorry if this is too long. :P

Well u gave a good description but you did't say whether its a third party control or not

If its a third party control try checking the documentation

Did u try to debug the project using breakpoint ?

it would be more clear for me if you would have provided the solution or code

try adding messagebox inside each events and methods like MessageBox.Show("Inside form Load")

and the most feared thing your project files must have been corupted.Once this files get corupted whatever code you add ao remove does not get reflected.

It's not a third party control, I made all five myself.

I'm not sure why you're asking about debugging. These controls are not appearing in the Visual Studio toolbox.

Debugging it with breakpoints or notifiers like MessageBoxes in events will not help...
