purported means 'assumed to be' or 'supposed'...the other word was actually threat.

My way of asking the question without indicating whether or not I consider the phenomena to be real or manufactured.

North American warming != Global Warming

I'm glad that Al Gore is keeping himself busy writing books, but just because the temperatures in North America are averaging slightly higher than recent history, doesn't change the fact that the planet as a whole has a lower average temperature as compared to recent history.

The trends of temperatures over time are very consistent, they go up then they go down and repeat. Carbon outputs and all other emissions for that matter (though most emissions are carbon based) should be minimized to prolong our planet in general, not just because there appears to be a reason now.
