i found vista hard to work with i.e when installing software, is there any thing i must know about vista or is the OS that makes it hard for things to work with. Any advise tnx

In Vista Microsoft changed a few Rules in how programs can run and behave.
Those "rule changes" are a good thing.

If a program has problems with those rules, the problem isn't Vista's its the program's. (Complain to the program's creators)

In Vista each user has two modes of operations (Restricted & Elevated), to operate by default in resistriced (including Adminstrators).
When a program needs to do something the requires special permissions, then it seeks the user permission to do.
-When granted Vista temporarily raises the permission levels (Elevation) and right its done lowers them.

In XP it like switching from a Standard User (which you should use primarily) to an Administrator, do what you need to do, then switching back.

A program running on XP under a User who has administrator privileges could do whatever it wanted.
This is why users complain when their machine gets infected by malware and virus. It because they are running as Administrators

In Vista the Elevation prompt is to tell the User, that this program need special permission to do something.
Ask yourself the question what was doing that need elevation.
If you weren't doing anything, its possible that could be malware.
