2005: The Road Ahead For Dream.in.code

Posted 02 January 2005 - 10:44 PM

Looking back, 2004 was a good year, but it definitley wasn't the best year dream.in.code has seen. We launched a new design back in May and really started to focus on content. Unfortunatley, I didn't follow through with my plan like I wanted to and we ended up with a great site, but not much new information. We also fell short of our new member goals which were lower than ever before. We should have been at about 4000 members as of today, but we are over 500 short of that mark.

I have made a few changes in the past month and plan to make more changes in the coming month to achieve several new goals in 2005. Here is a short list of the key areas I will focus on and wish to achieve by the end of this year:
  • 4500 Members by EOY (End of year)
  • 2 New tutorials/articles each month
  • 1 New resource each week
  • 500,000 page views per month
  • 100+ Posts per day
  • 1 Contest Every 4 months
With YOUR help and some minor changes to the layout and flow of the site, I think we can achieve these goals. By offering incentives and recognition for new content, I hope to better recognize and reward those members who take the time to submit quailty content.

We recently changed the way tutorials are handled by incorporating them in to the forums. We'd like 2 new tutorials a month but that means YOU have to submit what you have learned and share your knowledge with fellow members.

Our resources area is already setup to award 10 dream kudos to any member who submits a resource. We approve new resources daily and you get the kudos no matter what. We need YOU to submit your favorite sites so other members can learn!

We have made several changes to increase the number of threads and tutorials indexed by google and this has resulted in aprox. 8000 visitors each month from google alone. The more content indexed, the more new members and visitors we hope to attract.

One main area I want to focus on is repeat visitors. Offering new content and a fun environment encourages members to return to help or ask more questions. The more YOU can help the more members will return to have their questions answered by YOU.

So you might notice that I have really emphasized the "YOU"s, this is because without YOU there is no dream.in.code. Tell your friends, tell your classmates, we need YOUR help to reach our goals and while I'll do everything I can to help us get there, I can't do it alone.

Have a great new year and let's make 2005 the year dream.in.code makes it's mark!

i prefer a more "bag-of-mixed-nuts" atmosphere myself...

a lot of white people in the same room tends to get boring :P
