Haha I took a whole 5 minutes trying to learn VB, then I realised I had better things to waste my time on, like watching paint dry.

LOL

Ouch

Looks kinda drunk on Facebook picture

Topless if Facebook picture

What does that got to do with anything? First what is "kinda" drunk? And the second one, so? I don't really see the point?.. makes other people insecure about their neglected body?

Two important things you missed, that often people (employers/professors) like to mention are team work and communication. I don't see it anywhere there, and I would think it is one of the most important things today. Being great by yourself will get you no where if you cannot communicate your thoughts and ideas to your co-workers.

With that being said, you should try use facebook to check if they are also able to engage in normal social activity, and not some asocial locked-in-their-basement kinda of individual.

But that's just me.

I think this is part joke, guys. Personally, females with topless pics of themselves will get at least a face-to-face interview with me :D

Can't help but notice I'd have lost 7 off the top due to my "certification." Perhaps I will take that off of my next resume. It got me in the door almost 13 years ago, though, so that's good.

I would think that any PHD would help in any job. As a PHD would be a sign of an extremely hard working individual.

They were applying for webmaster positions. We just found a direct correlation between shitty candidates and the email address they chose to put on their resume. People who used their own domain, gmail, a company they are affiliated with, university email addy, etc. did MUCH better in our interviews so we just started to discount a lot of the @yahoo, @hotmail, and @aol folks.

I have an @gmail account but I use my own domain as it looks more professional.

The "email address at their own domain" is in that comic. It's a legitimate thing to look at.

Like when we asked "so what kind of cool stuff are you doing at home on your computer" and we got "oh, I don't really do much on my computer". @aol address :)

i was with him for this. i can attest completely. i still do it.

When people in offices ask me an email, they really look at me funny. "[email protected], what kind of an email is that!?". One thing I love about GMail is the antispam filter.

Priceless! I completely agree with the fact that applying for a job with an email account on one of the free web-mail providers definitely shows the lack of serious intentions, but this is just my opinion. Nowadays, it is not really expensive to register a domain and have an email address attached to this domain.

While in panic some years ago I sent an application for a (non-programmer) job with my webmail [email protected], I never got an answer even though the job was perfect for me, and vice versa. Hm...
